Blizzard announced today that the second season for World of Warcraft's Arena system is currently scheduled to begin on June 12th, 2007. The season kickoff is tied with a content patch and will be delayed if the patch is late. The first season will have lasted just shy of four months.
The top 0.5% of teams will be receiving their rewards: recognition, custom titles and expensive status-symbol flying mounts in game. While team ratings will be reset, names and members will remain the same and the second season will begin. Additionally, new arena gear rewards will be added with the intent to keep arena gear rewards in line with items obtained from PVE raid content.
Many in the WoW arena community have been waiting for this reset. Several established teams have taken a break since the Season 1 qualifiers and several new teams have formed in the interim. The downtime has also given previously ineligible players time to work up new characters with an official account, hopefully leading up to an even more competitive Season 2.
For Season 1, the American Regional Finals are set for June 2-3 in San Diego, California, with the European Regional Finals taking place in Hamburg, Germany on June 23-24. The winners of these events move on to the Global Finals at this year's BlizzCon, schedule for August 3rd and 4th.
